CVA Boys Program- FAQ
When are open gyms & tryouts?
Cincinnati Volleyball Academy will host open gyms in early September & tryouts in early October. Through our tryout process, Cincinnati Volleyball Academy coaches will evaluate players and select each team. Players are first grouped by age, then based on ability & then placed onto teams. A team can consist of multiple players from different schools in the Cincinnati and surrounding areas with up to 8-10 players on each team.
When is the season?
November – February/March. (National teams start back up in June with practices & then Nationals in July). Practices will begin around the second week of November and go through the last week of February. Tournaments are played in December, January, February & sometimes March depending on when OVR championships are held.
How many tournaments does a team play? Where are the tournaments?
On average, each Cincinnati Volleyball Academy team will play between 5 - 7 tournaments. Most of these are in Ohio & Kentucky. However, a few teams will travel to larger tournaments in St. Louis, MO; Chicago, IL; Orlando, FL; or Rochester, NY.
What days are practices & tournaments?
Practice days depend on what team you are on. Some teams will practice on Saturday or Sunday & one other day during the week (league play). Tournaments are usually Saturdays or Sundays (or both depending on the type of tournament)
What is the cost once my son makes a team?
The cost depends on what type of team your son is selected to be on. There will be both Regional & National teams. More information will be shared at open gyms & tryout sessions. (Payment plans are available)
I have heard about “National Teams”. What are those?
Cincinnati Volleyball Academy prides itself on offering competition options for every type of player/ability. National Teams are teams that compete at “Qualifiers” with the goal to earn a bid to the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic National Championship, or AAU National Championship. The top teams in the Nation complete at “Nationals” over the course of four days in July. These teams are extremely competitive and are for the most serious of volleyball players. The fees are also higher than our Regional teams due to the amount of travel involved. National teams who do not earn a bid will be able to compete AAU National Championships which are held in Orlando, FL.
